bone density (Dexa)
Did you know that 60,000 deaths each year can be directly attributed to complications due to osteoporosis?
A Bone Mineral Density (BMD) scan is a painless, non-invasive, and safe way to measure bone mass and to pinpoint those at risk for osteopenia or osteoporosis. It can also monitor response to osteoporosis treatment. The tests measure bone density in the most common sites of fracture due to osteoporosis such as the spine, hip, and/or wrist.
The bone density measurement is compared to two standards, or norms, known as "age-matched" and "young normal". The age-matched reading compares the bone density to what is expected in someone of the same age, sex, and size. The young normal reading compares the measurement to the optimal peak bone density of a healthy young adult of the same sex. With the information obtained from a BMD scan test, it can be decided what prevention or what treatment steps are right for each patient.
MD Imaging offers the most sophisticated bone density technology. All exams are done on the DiscoveryTM DXA system which provides superb diagnostic tools to support the early detection and treatment of osteoporosis.
